The Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Registered Nurse educates and cares for our home peritoneal dialysis patients. The PD RN also assists in the ongoing development of the local home training program.


  • Assists in the examination and evaluation of patient candidates so that appropriate PD treatment and other services can be arranged.

  • Trains patients and family who have chosen peritoneal dialysis as their treatment modality.

  • Provides ongoing training, counseling and emotional support.

  • Checks dialysis equipment to ensure it is operating properly, makes adjustments as needed.

  • Teaches patients proper care to avoid infections, and instruct patients on matters of diet.

  • Keeps comprehensive records of the schedule and changes in the condition of the patients.

  • Checks in with the patient at least monthly by phone or during clinic visits.

  • Obtains routine laboratory work to include routine adequacy testing.

  • Ensures the patient is provided consultation with a Social Worker and Dietitian.



  • A degree from an accredited nursing program is required.

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current license in the state of Florida.

  • Minimum 12 months clinical dialysis experience required.

  • Must have at least 6 months experience in Peritoneal Dialysis.
